About the artists

Collaborating for more than a decade, chamber music duo Josie Riches and David Wood perform repertoire from the renaissance to the 21st century composed and arranged for violin and guitar. From Tasmania, Australia, Josie and David's audiences have commented about their music… "I was enraptured during your recital", "it just sent tingles down our spines", "[the recital] was elegant and perfect for the event.", and "We could have been in an Austrian concert hall and their playing was so enchanting…".

JOSIE RICHES, VIOLIN

Josie teaches violin privately and with Stringalong, a program bringing string tuition into primary and high schools in Burnie, Tasmania. She is also a member of the Cradle Coast Orchestra and other local ensembles. Josie graduated in contemporary arts from the University of Tasmania with first-class honours and the University Medal. She is also a well-known maker of artistic-yet-functional rope baskets, made of recycled fishing rope found washed up onto Tasmania's West Coast beaches.

DAVID WOOD, GUITAR

David has played classical guitar since he was twelve and also teaches, with a student being awarded best AMEB guitar exam performance in Tasmania for 2016. The guitar has been a lifelong source of pleasure, and for David the combination of bowed and plucked strings is simply sublime. When not playing and studying the guitar, listening to or arranging music, or working out funky disco riffs on his J-bass, David pursues his day job as a telecommunications and automation engineer.
