Bite-sized concerts to brighten up your lunch break.

We invite you to enjoy a tempting menu of diverse short-form concerts held in your lunch break, featuring some of Tassie’s finest musical talent alongside interstate and international guests.

Curated by VDB’s Artistic Director, Julia Fredersdorff, the Lunchbox Concerts go "beyond the Band" to showcase a rich variety of artists, genres and styles.

Escape the hustle and bustle and step into an oasis of beautiful music in a casual and welcoming setting.

CONCERT #1 - MINI VDB
Thu 6 August, 1.05pm

Van Diemen’s Band performs Baroque gems for small ensemble, with some of the rarer instruments from the Baroque era taking centre stage - including the viola da gamba, the always-popular theorbo and … the musette! Featuring Julia Fredersdorff (Baroque violin), Laura Vaughan (gamba), Simon Martyn-Ellis (theorbo) and Simon Rickard (musette).

CONCERT #2 - CLAIRE EDWARDES
Thu 13 August, 1.05pm

Claire Edwardes OAM is a force of nature in new music. With infectious enthusiasm and the moniker of ‘sorceress of percussion,’ she has built a trailblazing career in new music through extensive commissioning of solo percussion works, championing female composers and gender equity in classical music, and performing around the world for audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Her unique solo show illuminates these dualities through bold new works, from the shimmering textures of Missy Mazzoli’s Orizzonte, to Claire’s own genre-defying work in collaboration with techno master Paul Mac, Dual Attractor.

CONCERT #3 - MEYERS & YAP
Thu 20 August, 1.05pm

Acclaimed fiddlers Katie Yap and Rachel Meyers bring their new duo project to the Lunchbox Concerts. Together they explore the confluence of folk and baroque music: haunting traditional tunes and songs sit alongside intricate original compositions and their own arrangements of pieces by baroque composers Henry Purcell and Diego Ortiz, all delivered with warmth, humour and undeniable chemistry.
