Our immensely popular Lunchbox Concerts return to pataway/Burnie in 2025!

Curated by VDB’s Artistic Director, Julia Fredersdorff, these concerts showcase some of Tassie’s finest musical talent, alongside interstate and international guests.

Escape the hustle and bustle and step into an oasis of calm listening to beautiful music in a casual and welcoming setting, with an eclectic program of music spanning a rich variety of genres and styles - all for the price of a sandwich!

CONCERT #1: THURSDAY 1 MAY - CROISSANTS & WHISKEY (TAS/VIC)

Prog-baroque quartet Croissants and Whiskey brings a new energy to old instruments, with an unconventional blend of harpsichord, violone, baroque viola, and recorders.

CONCERT #2: THURSDAY 8 MAY - SHAN DENG (TAS)

Multi-award-winning pianist Shan Deng, hailed as "a pianist of precision and flair" (Cape Times) performs a thrilling program of Bach, Mozart and Piazzolla. 

CONCERT #3: THURSDAY 15 MAY - NORDIC VOICES (TAS/NSW)

Van Diemen's Band explores the rich world of the string quartet with a program of traditional tunes from Scandinavia alongside new and old lutruwitan/Tasmanian compositions.   

CONCERT #4: THURSDAY 22 MAY - JACQUELINE WARD (TAS)

With a voice like “honey sliding down crystal” (The Courier Mail), soprano Jacqueline Ward returns by popular demand with a program of vocal delights.

CONCERT #5: THURSDAY 29 MAY - MINI VAN DIEMEN'S BAND (TAS)

Two of our core players take centre stage with a sumptuous program of duos by Schubert, Beethoven and Carulli, performed by VDB's 2025 Mentors-in-Residence Karina Schmitz (viola) and Simon Martyn-Ellis (Romantic guitar).
